Senior Presidential Advisor, Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo has clarified that the decision to provide a timetable for the ongoing power outages can only be done by the minister of energy.
According to him the Ernegy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh plays an oversight role in the energy generation sector which affords him the power to publish or not publish a timetable.
“To publish the rationing of power, nobody can do it except the Minister of Energy because he is overseeing the generation and they [ECG] are looking at the utilization. So, they can look at it and say that in this particular area, this is how it should be done,” he clarified.
The presidential advisor made this known when he spoke on the sidelines of a forum on open government partnerships and construction sector transparency in Accra yesterday.
He explained that although a timetable was feasible, it was solely at the discretion of the MOE.
“But it is something which can be done because it is what you have and what you have to use and spread it,” he said.
In recent months, Ghana has faced intermittent power supply, raising concerns from businesses about its detrimental impacts on operations.
However, the Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh who spoke to the media at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) event dismissed calls for a timetable to address the ongoing erratic power outages.
Also, he dismissed comparisons between the current energy situation and that of the 2015 to 2016 period under the erstwhile John Mahama government.
“”Ask those who want it to bring it, if there is, I haven’t seen any timetable. When you say bring a timetable, what do you mean? The ECG says that there is no timetable so why are you asking for a timetable?” he queried.
