Stephen Blewett, the new CEO of MTN Ghana, has announced a strategic initiative aimed at deepening engagements with the youth.
During a courtesy call on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at its head office in Accra, Blewett outlined his vision to provide opportunities for young people to unlock their potential through MTN Ghana’s network and systems, while facilitating market access for them. This initiative is intended to empower the youth and integrate their talents into the company’s operations.
“We are moving away from just a business to more of platform plays,” Blewett said. “MTN Ghana is open for business, and we welcome engaging with people who want to develop products and put them onto our network and systems, especially young people. I feel passionately that the next greatest technologies will come out of Africa. We need to provide the opportunities for young people to develop their skills and, more importantly, bring it to market.”
This visit also allowed Blewett to introduce himself and familiarize himself with the GJA executives. He reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to supporting the media in achieving high standards in information dissemination, recognizing the media’s crucial role in helping MTN Ghana connect with people across the country. He noted that by enabling better connectivity makes access to information easier which is essential for development.
Blewett also assured the GJA of MTN Ghana’s support for various programs, including the upcoming 75th GJA anniversary, the 28th GJA Awards ceremony, and other training and capacity-building initiatives. He emphasized that the media’s ability to shape minds and control thought processes necessitates proper training to ensure professional conduct, which ultimately benefits the citizenry.
GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour praised MTN for its interest in the growth of the Ghanaian media, highlighting the media’s role in shaping public opinion.
He stressed that proper training and support for the media are crucial for a vibrant, professional, and protected press. Dwumfour acknowledged the significant milestones achieved by MTN under former CEO Selorm Adadevoh, attributing some successes to the company’s strong relationship with the media. He assured Blewett of the media’s continued support for MTN Ghana.
Accompanying Blewett were key MTN Ghana executives, including Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Head of Communications; Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer; and others.
