Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND), and the Forestry Commission have planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings to protect the Ada Ramsar Site in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region.
The exercise, part of the national Green Ghana initiative, aims to restore mangrove forests and support local communities. Ghana’s mangrove cover has declined significantly due to urbanization, pollution, and climate change.
SYND’s Executive Coordinator, Chibeze Ezekiel, emphasized the importance of protecting wetlands and mangroves to support livelihoods and the environment. Prudential Life Insurance funded the project, which aligns with their sustainability goals and SDGs.
The partners plan to upscale the project to cover other areas and have distributed 15,000 seedlings in other communities since 2022. Local residents have committed to caring for the seedlings and urged other organizations to support the initiative.
