A delegation from Kenya, in East Africa, has toured key facilities of the Jospong Group of Companies in Accra and Kumasi.

The delegation made up of Council of Governors, City Managers, and technical experts told newsmen they were impressed with the conglomerates exploits at various aspects of waste management and treatments.

They also mentioned that they were especially impressed with the design and implementation of the waste and sanitation module under the Youth Employment Agency in partnership with the government.

Speaking to the media after a tour of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) and Sewerage Systems Ghana Ltd (SSGL), the Wajir County Governor and Vice Chairperson of the Council of Governors, H.E Ahmed Abdullahi, commended Jospong Group for their unique operations which can be compared to any international standard around the world.

“The fact that this is being done by Ghanaians in a clean environment with no negative impact on the environment and the people in the community is highly commendable,” he said.

According to him, JGC’s expertise and technology were ‘exactly’ what Kenya needed to address its waste management challenges.

After observing the separation process, production of plastic pellets, and youth entrepreneurship initiatives at JGC’s facilities in Accra, the Kenyan delegation praised Jospong’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being.

“This visit has been an eye-opener. We are confident that partnering with Jospong will help us achieve our waste management goals and create a cleaner, healthier environment for our citizens,” said one of the delegates.

The delegation is on a five-day mission to study Jospong Group’s waste management systems, following Kenyan President H.E. William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto’s visit to Ghana in April. The mission aims to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration between the two countries, aligning with the theme “Driving Investment and Intra-Africa Trade: The Ghana-Kenya Experience.”

Besides ACARP and SSGL, the delegation also paid visits to Zoomlion’s Pantang Solid Waste Transfer Station, JA Plantpool, the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant, Medical waste treatment plants and the Kumasi Wastewater treatment Plant among other key facilities.

The Jospong-Kenyan Project Lead, Mr. Peter Dagadu, explained that the team is exploring business opportunities to enhance sanitation in Kenya, focusing on downstream sanitation management with value addition.

“This business development mission demonstrates the Kenyan government’s admiration for Jospong Group’s contributions to Ghana’s economy and its desire to replicate similar successes in Kenya,” Mr. Dagadu said.
