The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) said on Thursday that a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria has caused power outages in some areas across the country since Wednesday.
The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) attributed the reduction in gas supply to maintenance works being undertaken by a gas supplier in Nigeria, which is expected to last three weeks.
The reduced gas supply has resulted in a decrease in power generation capacity in Ghana, which may lead to load management over the next three weeks, GRIDCo and ECG said.
The companies assured the public that they are working with other stakeholders to optimize available resources and minimize the impact of the gas supply reduction on consumers.
GRIDCo and ECG apologized for the inconvenience caused by the power outages.
