KPMG Ghana has called on banks and financial institutions to prioritize financing projects that incorporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations.
Speaking at the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce and KPMG Ghana ESG webinar series, Kenneth Agyei-Duah, manager in the Governance, Risk, and Compliance Services at KPMG Ghana, emphasized the need for deliberate action from financial institutions to finance sustainable projects.
While acknowledging the government and regulatory bodies’ efforts in providing guidelines and regulations for sustainable financing, Agyei-Duah stressed the importance of collaboration between financial institutions, government, and non-governmental organizations to promote sustainable financing.
He suggested strategies such as enhancing CSR initiatives, supporting research and innovation, and collaborating with governments and NGOs to finance projects in the renewable energy space.
The webinar discussed sustainable finance options, climate risk, ESG ratings, and the need for financial institutions to promote green bonds and sustainable investment funding.
