Ghana’s $13bn debt restructuring deal boosts economic recovery hopes

Ghana’s landmark agreement with bondholders to restructure $13 billion of debt is expected to bolster the country’s reserves and bring stability to its economy, according to Dr. Theo Acheampong, economist.

The deal, announced on Monday, offers significant debt relief and cash flow provision, paving the way for economic recovery.

While Dr. Acheampong expressed optimism, he also cautioned that measures are needed to ensure sustainability.

The agreement follows a similar deal with bilateral creditors and paves the way for a $360 million disbursement from the IMF.

Ghana’s international bonds rose on the news, recovering earlier losses.
