International research and data firm Fitch Solutions has predicted a win for John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 general elections in December.
The London-based firm, consistent with its forecast since last year, found that 54% of respondents in a recent survey favored the former president.
In its mid-year review for Sub-Saharan Africa, Fitch Solutions explained that the current economic state will significantly influence voter choices on December 7.
Mike Kruiniger, Associate Director of Country Risk at Fitch Solutions, stated, “We believe that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has a stronger chance of winning the upcoming general elections compared to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
Kruiniger added that voters’ decisions will be heavily influenced by issues like job creation and economic management, which he believes will disadvantage the NPP given the current economic hardship.
“Recent polls consistently place the NDC ahead, with the most recent survey showing 54% of respondents favoring the NDC,” he noted.
He further explained that surveys have highlighted economic management and job creation as the most critical issues for voters in this election, positioning the NPP unfavorably due to the economic challenges the country has faced in recent years.
