The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has pledged his utmost commitment to serving Ghana diligently.
This follows his swearing-in as the new Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), replacing Herbert Krapa, who resigned after being appointed Minister of State for the Ministry of Energy.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Ministry of Energy’s premises, was presided over by the outgoing Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who has been elevated as the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate for the December polls.
“I was sworn in as ECG Board Chairman today. I remain resolute and committed to serving our country, Ghana. May God be my guide,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He also outlined measures to address the challenges facing the ECG, acknowledging the significant issues the company has faced.
“Many of us have experienced the frustration of unexpected outages, confusing bills, and unreliable service. As a Member of Parliament, I’ve seen some of my constituents (students) struggle to complete their homework by candlelight,” he remarked during his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, July 17.
Afenyo-Markin expressed his privilege in stepping into a role shaped by the exemplary leadership and visionary efforts of past board chairs and sector ministers of the ECG. He praised their relentless dedication and strategic foresight, which have catalyzed transformative changes and steered ECG toward significant milestones.
