President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to commission a 320-unit housing project for the Ghana Police Service (GPS) on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.
Initiated in 2018, the housing project comprises seven blocks of two-bedroom apartments and thirteen blocks of three-bedroom apartments, each block containing sixteen apartments. Alongside the residential units, the project includes a multipurpose sports facility, a kindergarten school, and various auxiliary residential facilities.
In a press release dated Friday, July 19, 2024, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Works and Housing, Elvis Adjei-Baah, the Ministry underscored the project’s importance.
“The completion and utilization of this housing project will augment the government’s other housing programs that are being rolled out to increase the residential stock of public service workers,” the statement read.
The project represents a significant governmental effort to improve the living conditions of public service workers and tackle the country’s housing deficit. The Ministry emphasized that this initiative is a crucial step towards alleviating accommodation challenges in Ghana’s urban areas.
“This project will reduce accommodation challenges in our sprawling cities and ultimately bridge the national housing deficit, which stands at 1.8 million housing units,” the release noted.
These new housing units will provide essential accommodation for police personnel, enhancing their welfare and enabling them to perform their duties more effectively.
The commissioning ceremony will be attended by high-ranking government officials, members of the Ghana Police Service, and other stakeholders in the housing sector. This milestone event will highlight the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of its citizens.
