The Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Ghana are calling for alternative fuel sources to power their plants during the scheduled shutdown of the Ghana National Gas Limited Company’s Gas Processing Plant and offshore gas export facilities.
Ghana Gas has announced the shutdown for critical safety and essential maintenance work aimed at enhancing the plant’s operational efficiency and ensuring an uninterrupted gas supply in the future.
Dr. Elikplim Apetorgbor, CEO of the Independent Power Producers, Ghana, expressed concerns about the impact on production due to the unavailability of fuel during this period.
He emphasized the need for the government and sector managers to “make available an alternative fuel supply and ensure that this fuel is optimized for proper output.”
While acknowledging the necessity of maintenance, Dr. Apetorgbor stressed the importance of proper planning and coordination by sector managers to minimize the negative impact on electricity supply during the maintenance period.
