The Ministry of Transport has highlighted the critical need to maintain the newly constructed Jamestown Fishing Harbour, which is awaiting formal commissioning. The ministry is calling on all stakeholders to back the government’s efforts in ensuring the harbour’s long-term success.
The $50 million project, funded by the Chinese government, took four years to complete. Following a tour of the project, Sector Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah expressed his satisfaction with its completion. However, he noted that while construction is finished, some administrative tasks and final inspections are still required before the facility can officially open.
Minister Asiamah emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to ensure that the harbour serves future generations effectively. “The construction phase is complete, but we still need to finalize some paperwork for the transfer of ownership to the government. Once the final certificate is signed, we will coordinate with His Excellency to schedule the commissioning of the facility,” he explained.
He clarified that the project is indeed completed but requires final inspection and procedural steps before it is officially commissioned.
Minister Asiamah also appealed to the media to help emphasize the importance of maintenance. “The media should assist in reinforcing this message. We invest public funds into building facilities, and once they are handed over to the user agency, it’s crucial that they are maintained for the benefit of all,” he said.
