GPHA: Over Six Private Investors Interested in Developing Keta Port

35views

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has revealed that more than six private investors have shown interest in partnering with the government to construct and operationalize the Keta Port in the Volta Region.

According to GPHA’s Director-General, Michael Luguje, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is in the process of issuing an environmental and social impact assessment report, which will be presented to the interested investors as part of the port’s development process.

In October 2018, President Akufo-Addo signed an Executive Instrument (EI) officially designating Keta as the site for the Port of Keta, to be managed by the GPHA. Despite this, residents of Keta have expressed frustration over the government’s delay in moving forward with the port’s construction.

In a recent media interview, Mr. Luguje noted that while the government has yet to receive formal proposals from investors, the interest is strong.

“We have already started engaging potential investors while waiting for the environmental and social impact assessment. So far, over six different companies, both local and international, have expressed interest in partnering with the government to build the port,” he stated.

He added that the environmental and social impact assessment report is crucial for these investors to refine their proposals.

“Once the report is released by the EPA, which we hope will be in the next month or two, we will share it with the investors. They will then review it and work towards submitting more concrete proposals on the type of partnership they envision to build and operate the Port of Keta,” Mr. Luguje concluded.
