The Coalition of Concerned Nzema People has warned that it may take legal action against the government regarding the proposed private sector-led petroleum hub project.
This follows the Office of the Presidency’s dismissal of the group’s petition, which contested the acquisition of 20,000 acres of land by the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation for the initiative. Despite the petition, the Presidency has affirmed that the sod-cutting ceremony for the project will go ahead as planned.
In response, Isaac Kojo Ndede, an Executive Member of the Coalition, expressed the group’s dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the land acquisition process. He emphasized that the Coalition would seek legal redress if their concerns are not addressed.
“If consultation is necessary, should it involve someone who doesn’t even own an acre of the land? Or should you not go through the proper channels to engage the right people in the villages? When first-class engagement is avoided, and the rightful landowners are bypassed, do you expect them to allow the process to continue without challenge?” Ndede stated.
He added, “The way these matters are being handled is what we are contesting, and we are making it clear that this approach is not acceptable. If all else fails, we will pursue legal action, and that is non-negotiable.”
