Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has vowed to address the high cost of data in Ghana as part of a broader strategy to position the country as a leading digital hub in Africa under the next NPP administration.
There has been growing concern among consumers and businesses about the rising cost of data services, which many argue is putting a strain on their finances.
Speaking at the launch of the 2024 NPP manifesto in Takoradi, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his government would prioritize increased investment in the telecommunications industry to make data more affordable.
“For Ghana to become a digital hub in Africa, our telecom industry needs significant investment. The current cost of data is too high for the average Ghanaian, which undermines our digitalization efforts,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia also highlighted his commitment to working closely with industry stakeholders to establish clear policy guidelines aimed at removing investor uncertainty and streamlining business operations. This includes the swift allocation of spectrum, with a focus on enhancing digital inclusion across the country.
