The management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has reassured renal patients that the much-needed medical supplies currently stuck at the port will be cleared soon.
Renal patients at the hospital have expressed frustration and threatened to picket on Wednesday, August 21, in protest over the delay in obtaining these critical consumables.
Due to the shortage, the hospital’s renal unit has been closed for three weeks, leaving patients without essential medical care.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Monday, August 19, Korle Bu’s Public Relations Officer, Mustapha Salifu, assured the public that the hospital is working diligently to resolve the issue and resume normal services.
“We have repeatedly apologized for this situation and continue to ask for patience. We have received a commitment from the Ministry [of Health] to ensure the clearance of these supplies,” Salifu stated. “They have already endured this challenge for over two weeks. We urge cooperation so that we can clear the container at the port and get back to normal operations.”
Meanwhile, Baffuor Kojo Ahenkorah, the spokesperson for the renal patients, has urged the hospital to fulfill its promises and expedite the clearance of the supplies.
“We appreciate their assurances, but we hope they will follow through with the clearance as promised. By Wednesday, we expect to receive a clear update on the situation,” Ahenkorah emphasized.
