PAC Uncovers Scandal: 18 teachers in Amansie Central caught in unauthorized promotion scheme, GH¢188,000 lost to the State

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to launch an investigation into 18 teachers in Amansie Central who unlawfully promoted themselves without adhering to the regulations governing the GES.

A report from the Amansie Central Education Directorate revealed that these teachers upgraded their ranks without the necessary documentation, leading to an increase in their salaries and causing a financial loss of GH¢188,000 to the state.

Vincent Ben Ameyaw, the Amansie Central District Education Director, confirmed that efforts to recover the funds are underway, with GH¢34,000 already retrieved.

“We have successfully collected GH¢34,731.53, leaving a balance of GH¢152,966.54, which we are actively working to recover,” Ameyaw stated.

He further explained that the teachers had bypassed the official channels for promotion, describing their actions as a “backdoor affair.”
