Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam has announced that the government is considering extending the construction of the Kasoa to Winneba highway beyond its originally planned endpoint in Winneba. This possibility arose during an inspection tour of the highway alongside the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye.
Amin Adam emphasized that the Ministry of Finance is committed to releasing funds promptly to ensure the smooth progression of the construction. He highlighted the highway’s strategic importance, noting that it serves as a crucial link not only within the region but also to other West African countries.
“This highway connects to Takoradi through Cape Coast and beyond. I’ve discussed with the Roads and Highways Minister the potential of extending this contract further, possibly to the border, given the high quality of work being done. Such an extension would bring significant relief to the people, and the Roads and Highways Minister and I will work together to support this project,” the Finance Minister stated.
He further assured that the ongoing investments in infrastructure are aimed at easing the movement of goods and people, thus enhancing efficiency and productivity across Ghana. He reiterated the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to providing continued support for the project’s timely completion.
Residents along the highway have expressed concerns about safety, particularly regarding large gullies and rock blasting activities. In response, Roads and Highways Minister Francis Asenso-Boakye acknowledged the importance of safety measures and assured that specific concerns would be addressed promptly.
“Safety is crucial, and I know that safety measures have been implemented. However, if there are specific issues that people are unhappy about, we are ready to address them,” Asenso-Boakye affirmed.
