Water supply disruption in Eastern Accra due to transmission line burst, repairs ongoing says GWCL
The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced a significant interruption in water supply to the eastern part of the Greater Accra Region, which began on Sunday, 25th August 2024.
The affected areas include Dodowa, Oyibi, Frafraha, Adenta, Madina, Ashongman, Haatso, La, Osu, Kanda, Airport Residential Area, Legon, and surrounding communities.
According to a press statement signed by Stanley Martey, Chief Manager of PR & Communications, the disruption was caused by a burst on the transmission line from the Kpong Treatment Plant to the Dodowa Booster Station, impacting the northeastern part of the metropolis. Although initial repair work was completed, further issues were discovered on the same transmission line, necessitating another shutdown. GWCL engineers are working tirelessly to replace the damaged section and restore normal water supply.
In light of the situation, GWCL management has urged residents, particularly those in the affected areas, to conserve the little water they may have stored. The company assures the public that the situation is under control, and efforts are being made to complete repairs as swiftly as possible. Barring any unforeseen complications, the project is expected to be completed by the end of Wednesday, 28th August 2024, with water supply resuming immediately thereafter.
To mitigate the impact, GWCL has implemented measures to support the affected communities, including deploying water tankers to critical service providers such as hospitals and schools.
GWCL management sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused by the disruption and appeals for the public’s patience during this period. For any urgent water needs, the public and essential service providers are encouraged to contact GWCL through the following numbers:
