To foster growth and development in the oil palm value chain, the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) has commenced the licensing and registration of sector actors.
These actors include aggregators, millers, refiners, and exporters/importers of crude or refined palm oil, who significantly contribute to Ghana’s economy, food security, and sustainable development.
At a recent dialogue in Accra, TCDA CEO William Agyapong Quaittoo emphasized the importance of regulation in boosting local oil production.
The event aimed to improve local palm oil production and promote best practices for a level playing field.
Quaittoo noted that local producers’ inability to compete internationally has led to their collapse, highlighting the need for supportive policies and programs. He urged actors to register and obtain TCDA licenses to ensure efficiency and sanity in the sector.
Registration benefits include:
Reduced illicit activities
- Traceability and accountability
- Increased access to finance
- Improved sustainability and environmental practices
Dr. Paul Kwabena Amaning, National Organizer for OPDAG, stressed the need for collaboration between the Minerals Commission and TCDA to ensure sector sustainability.
He also highlighted infrastructure challenges, such as transportation costs, product spoilage, and market access restrictions.”
