Efua Ghartey, the newly elected President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), has pledged to lead the Association toward unity and progress. Following her historic win in Kumasi, Ghartey emphasized the need to end divisions within the GBA and called for a collective effort to advance the Association’s mission.
“The Bar has spoken, and from today, it is a united Bar in service. No divisions, no factions. It’s time to work together to ensure progress,” Ghartey said, highlighting that unity is key to the GBA’s success.
Ghartey, the first female president in the GBA’s history, sees her election as a transformative moment, not just for the Association but for women in leadership. “This is something new. For the first time, the Bar has entrusted leadership to the ladies, and with God’s help, we will make you proud,” she added.
Ghartey won with 1,278 votes, defeating Agbesi Dzakpasu, who garnered 1,060 votes. Her election is seen as the culmination of years of dedication to the GBA. A lawyer with over 30 years of experience, Ghartey had previously run for the presidency twice, losing by narrow margins.
In the Vice Presidential race, Victoria Barth secured 1,624 votes, defeating Ebenezer Kwaitoo, who received 495 votes. Barth, a respected legal professional and educator, is known for mentoring many young lawyers at the Ghana School of Law.
