Ghana recorded a trade surplus of GH¢5.4 billion in the second quarter of 2024, according to the latest data from the Ghana Statistical Service. This comes after the country’s total trade value for Q2 2024 reached GH¢123.0 billion, with exports amounting to GH¢64.2 billion and imports at GH¢58.8 billion.
The trade surplus marks a significant turnaround from the GH¢3.1 billion deficit recorded during the same period in 2023. In US dollar terms, the total trade value was $9.0 billion.
However, the surplus represents a decline compared to the GH¢11.5 billion surplus in the first quarter of 2024. Gold led the country’s exports with a value of GH¢37.0 billion, making up 57.6 percent of total exports. Other key exports included crude petroleum at GH¢12.6 billion and cashew nuts at GH¢1.2 billion.
In total, Ghana exported GH¢64.2 billion worth of goods in Q2 2024, while importing GH¢58.8 billion worth of goods.
