Health Ministry refers alleged medical misconduct at Winneba Trauma Hospital to CID and Attorney General
The Ministry of Health has referred a case of alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Central Region, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department for further action.
The move follows an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which uncovered serious misconduct by hospital staff related to the death of a patient. The patient had been transferred to Ojobi but was reportedly abandoned, leading to her demise.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 2, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the GHS investigation revealed that the staff involved failed to take appropriate action, contributing to the patient’s death. Although the inquiry committee recommended internal disciplinary measures, the Ministry decided to pursue additional investigations due to the severity of the case.
To ensure accountability, the Ministry has requested the Attorney General’s involvement to assess the staff’s legal culpability and determine the necessary legal steps. The case has also been referred to the CID for a criminal investigation.
The Ministry of Health reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of healthcare and vowed to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
