Zoomlion Ghana Limited has addressed reports linking the company to delayed payments for operatives under the Youth Employment Agency’s (YEA) Sanitation Module, clarifying that the responsibility lies with the government.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 3, 2024, Zoomlion explained that the delay in disbursing allowances is due to the government’s failure to release necessary funds, which is beyond the company’s control. Zoomlion emphasized that while it manages the daily activities of YEA operatives, payment of their allowances is solely handled by the government and YEA.
Once the funds are disbursed, Zoomlion processes the payments to the operatives. The company reiterated that it has no control over the amount or timing of these payments.
This clarification comes in response to previous controversies, including accusations that Zoomlion was retaining GH¢400 from each operative’s GH¢500 monthly allowance. Zoomlion refuted these claims, explaining that the GH¢400 management fee covers logistics costs such as wheelbarrows, shovels, and brooms for the operatives.
“We understand concerns about delayed payments in some regions, but Zoomlion is not responsible. The government has yet to disburse the funds needed for these payments,” the company stated.
Zoomlion assured operatives and the public of its commitment to facilitating timely payments once government funds are released, encouraging constructive dialogue to resolve any grievances. “We believe in engaging in open and fair discussions rather than actions or statements that could unjustly damage the company’s image,” the statement concluded.
