Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has voiced strong concerns over Africa’s mismanagement of its natural resources, particularly its failure to harness solar energy. He described the situation as “tragic” during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Christian Service University in Kumasi on Friday.
Prof. Oquaye stressed that Africa’s abundant natural resources, especially solar power, remain largely untapped, which hinders the continent’s sustainable development.
“The way Africa is managing the natural resources that God has blessed us with is very tragic,” Prof. Oquaye remarked. He further highlighted the disparity in solar energy production, citing a recent BBC report that showed the Netherlands generates more solar power than the entire African continent, despite Africa being “the home of the sun.”
He called on African leaders to take decisive action to fully harness the continent’s solar potential, urging them to invest in renewable energy solutions that would foster long-term growth and sustainability.
