The Cocoa Carriers Association has directed its members at the Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots of the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited to begin an indefinite sit-down strike starting Monday, October 7, 2024. The strike is in response to unresolved issues related to their conditions of service.
In 2022, the Association staged a similar strike, demanding better wages and working conditions, which left thousands of bags of cocoa beans unattended at warehouses across the country.
Raymond Atanga Abobiga, the National Chairman of the Association, confirmed the decision in an interview with Citi News, urging all members to fully support the strike. “We will report to work but remain at the warehouse gates, refusing to work until our demands are met,” he said. Abobiga emphasized that the strike is not targeted at individuals but is a fight for fair treatment.
