The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed reports suggesting that it committed to releasing a revised version of the 2024 voter register within one week following a meeting with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) on Tuesday, October 1.
In a statement dated October 8, signed by Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC rejected claims made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NDC had stated that the EC promised to provide a corrected and updated voter register to political parties for scrutiny within a week after the IPAC meeting.
The NDC’s Functional Executive Committee had announced that it accepted the EC’s pledge to release the updated version of the provisional voter register within a week. However, the EC clarified that its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, had instead indicated that the revised provisional voter register would be shared with political parties and uploaded online within two weeks or earlier, not within a week as claimed.
The EC emphasized that at no point did Mensa promise a one-week timeline for the revised register.
