Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has dismissed the notion that all political parties aim to acquire power solely to enrich their members. He emphasized that the NDC stands apart from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) by prioritizing social and human development and fostering inclusivity.
Speaking at a rally in Logba Alakpeti in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region, Asiedu Nketia rejected the idea that both the NPP and NDC share the same goals. “The attempt by many people to lump all of us together, NPP, NDC, and say that the parties are the same is wrong,” he said.
He explained that the NDC’s beliefs and ideologies ensure equal opportunities for all Ghanaians, regardless of tribal background or political affiliations. In contrast, he claimed the NPP often practices discrimination in development and employment opportunities when in power.
“You know that when NPP is in power, that is not the belief they work with. They work with a principle that suggests some Ghanaians are more Ghanaian than others,” he noted, accusing the NPP of favoring certain groups in recruitment and government employment.
Asiedu Nketia reiterated that the NDC, when in power, channels the country’s resources into development projects that benefit all citizens, such as roads, electricity, water, and education facilities. He accused the NPP of using public funds for personal gain and influencing voters with money instead of addressing community needs.
“So when they bring the money, please take the money, it is your money which they should have used to fix the market, to build the technical school, or the roads and the water that Togbe has been complaining about,” he stressed, urging voters to see through such tactics.
The NDC’s campaign in Afadzato South aims to secure all valid votes in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general election. The constituency has remained a stronghold of the opposition party since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.
