Ghana Fintech and Payment Association aims to expand digital financial access nationwide in 2025
In a push to boost digital financial inclusion across Ghana, the Ghana Fintech and Payment Association has announced plans to expand access to digital financial services in the country’s northern and middle regions in 2025. This initiative seeks to balance the currently higher concentration of digital service users in the south, making digital finance more accessible to rural and underserved communities.
Speaking at a media briefing following the launch of the fourth Ghana Fintech Awards and Dinner Night on October 25, 2024, in Accra, the Association’s President, Martin Awagah, highlighted plans for a series of regional roadshows. “A lot of digital financial services products are primarily utilized within the southern belt of Ghana, leaving gaps in the northern and middle belts. By bringing targeted education and engagement to these regions, we aim to connect communities that are less digitally integrated,” Awagah stated.
In line with this mission, the Ghana Fintech Awards has opened nominations for its 2024 edition, which will honor fintech innovators accelerating financial inclusion and economic growth in Ghana. The awards ceremony is set for March 1, 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel, with nominations open from October 25 to November 25, 2024, via the official website ghanafintechawards.org.
Cristina Swan-Awagah, Project Coordinator for the Ghana Fintech Awards, emphasized the impact of fintech on Ghana’s economy. “These awards celebrate the adaptability of fintech companies, whose innovations are not only enabling convenient financial transactions but are also fueling the digital transformation critical to our economic growth,” she shared.
