Today, November 1, 2024, Ghana launched its high-speed 5G internet service in Accra, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation. NextGen Infraco, the consortium leading the 5G rollout, pledged to harness 5G to accelerate key economic sectors and drive long-term national growth.
Speaking at the official launch, NextGen Infraco’s Managing Director, Tenu Awoonor, highlighted the service’s potential to create a more inclusive society. “Whether a farmer in Tamale, a small business owner in Kumasi, or a student in Cape Coast, 5G will connect you to the world and open doors to new opportunities,” he said. Awoonor emphasized that NextGen Infraco, a partnership between the government and seven other key partners, sees 5G as a catalyst for national growth and empowerment, envisioning it as a critical step toward a more digitally connected Ghana.
In his closing remarks, Awoonor described 5G as the beginning of a transformative era, stating, “Together, we will harness the power of 5G to build a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.”
The NextGen Infraco consortium comprises Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, Tech Mahindra, and telecom partners AT Ghana and Telecel Ghana.
