Cholera cases in Kasoa rise to 56 as health authorities strengthen response measures

34views

Health authorities have confirmed 56 cases of cholera since the outbreak began in the Kasoa area, initially reporting just five cases. Currently, 46 patients remain hospitalized and are responding to treatment, while the death toll holds steady at five.

Out of the 56 cases, 15 are from the main Kasoa area, while the remaining cases have been reported from neighboring districts, including Gomoa East and Ga South.

Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), visited Kasoa for a stakeholder meeting on Monday, where he announced the implementation of a strategy to enhance treatment effectiveness and limit the spread of the disease, particularly within healthcare facilities. He also noted improvements in the Ada area, where the outbreak initially started.

Dr. Aboagye called on all regional health departments to remain vigilant and strengthen preventive measures. He encouraged the public to maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation to curb further transmission.

“Let’s ensure a clean environment around us. Regular handwashing, as practiced during COVID, is essential. Schools, workplaces, and marketplaces should provide WASH facilities and running water for handwashing with soap,” Dr. Aboagye emphasized, adding, “This will help prevent further cases, even if someone is infected.”
