Bawumia pledges Free Tertiary Education for Cocoa Farmers’ children in place of SHS scholarship program
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has proposed a free tertiary education policy for children of cocoa farmers if he is elected. This initiative would replace the current Senior High School (SHS) scholarship program for cocoa farmers’ children, which has become redundant under the Free SHS scheme.
Speaking to cocoa farmers during Farmers’ Day celebrations in Jocubu, Odotobri constituency, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the policy aims to remove financial barriers for cocoa farmers’ children pursuing higher education.
“Previously, COCOBOD provided scholarships for cocoa farmers’ children to attend SHS. But with the Free SHS policy, this is now covered,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “The government now plans to reallocate those funds to cover tertiary education fees for children of cocoa farmers, beginning next year, with COCOBOD taking on the responsibility.”
