GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited has denied recent media reports alleging that the Aboso Glass Factory in Tarkwa, Western Region, was sold for GH₵8 million.
Managing Director of GIHOC, Kofi Jumah, clarified that the company, which assumed control of the factory in 2019, has no plans to sell the facility. Instead, he disclosed that efforts are actively underway to revitalize the factory, with operations expected to resume by 2025.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi Business News, Jumah dismissed the allegations as baseless and urged the public to disregard them.
“One story circulating is that we sold Aboso for 8 million cedis. That is a joke. Anytime I hear comments like that, I just laugh it off. Such claims do not deserve attention,” he stated.
He emphasized GIHOC’s commitment to revamping the facility, highlighting the substantial resources and effort being invested. “If people are gullible, let them believe it. But the fact remains that we’re working toward establishing a significant factory there. We’ve put in a lot of time and resources, and even the logistical effort of moving between Accra and Aboso is no small task,” he noted.
Reviving a Dormant Industrial Asset
The Aboso Glass Factory, once a vital industrial asset in Ghana, has remained dormant for several years. GIHOC’s plans to rehabilitate the facility signal a commitment to restoring its operational capacity and industrial significance.
The Managing Director’s comments underscore the company’s dedication to contributing to Ghana’s industrial development through strategic investments and revitalization efforts.
