President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasized the significance of the newly inaugurated Flower Pot Interchange, describing it as a lasting legacy for future generations. He called on Ghanaians to protect and maintain the infrastructure to ensure its long-term benefits.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, November 19, President Akufo-Addo stated:
“The Flower Pot Interchange is a legacy for future generations. I call on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the newly established National Roads Authority, traditional rulers, commuters, and all Ghanaians to join hands in safeguarding this asset to ensure it serves its purpose for the long term.”
The President also urged motorists and pedestrians using the Spintex-Flower Pot route to adhere to road safety regulations to minimize accidents.
“I urge motorists to exercise caution, prioritize safety, and respect road regulations,” he added.
Improved Connectivity and Safety Features
The Flower Pot Interchange is expected to enhance movement between Cantonments, Burma Camp, East Legon, Spintex, and Tema, significantly improving the quality of life for residents.
Key features of the interchange include:
- A new road through the old tunnel at East Legon.
- An additional 200 meters of road connecting Cantonments to the Giffard Road Interchange.
- A redesigned Flower Pot roundabout and its approaches.
- Pedestrian walkways on both sides of the flyover.
- Road furniture such as streetlights, road markings, and traffic signals.
This infrastructure upgrade is anticipated to ease traffic congestion, promote road safety, and support economic activities in the region.
