The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has arrested Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and television presenter with Wontumi FM, on charges including the publication of false news, contrary to Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The arrest occurred on November 23 after the presenter was invited by the Ashanti Regional Police Command. Following his arrival, he was taken into custody, with police preparing to present him in court.
The charges stem from allegations that Oheneba Nana Asiedu made statements encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the upcoming December general elections.
The Ghana Police Service has described his comments as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.” The case underscores the police’s commitment to curbing the dissemination of misinformation ahead of the elections.
