The High Commissioner of Malaysia in Ghana, His Excellency Syed Nauzer Idid has indicated Malaysia’s willingness and preparedness to support the growth of Ghana’s oil palm industry with its vast experience in the sector at a forum held in Accra for key stakeholders in the palm oil sector.
The High Commissioner further stated that palm oil is a crucial economic pillar for Malaysia and contributes significantly to the country’s growth as well as the livelihood of millions involved in its production and distribution.
His Excellency Syed Nauzer made this revelation when the High Commission of Malaysia in Accra in collaboration with the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) South Africa held the Malaysia Palm Oil Trade and Networking Programme at the Accra Marriott Hotel on 8th November 2024.
The event was attended by players from the public and private sectors to explore new approaches for growth and sustainability in the sector. The attendees included the President of the Oil Palm Development Association of Ghana (OPDAG), Mr. Samuel Avaala, Chief Executive of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Mr. William Agyapong Quaittoo and the Chief Commercial Officer at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), Mr. Kofi Addo.
In addition to officials of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) South Africa, the event was attended by representatives of three leading Malaysian companies which specialise in oil production. They are KLK Alami Commodities, Mac World Industries and Able Perfect.
Malaysia which shares a similar post-independence economic history with Ghana, has become a global leader in palm oil production. The collaboration represents a valuable opportunity for Ghana to leverage Malaysian expertise in developing a more robust palm oil industry and speed up Ghana’s journey to become self-sufficient with the production of oil palm.
