The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed rumors suggesting plans to move its headquarters from Ghana to Nigeria. Recent media reports claimed that financial difficulties caused by the Ghanaian government’s indebtedness to WAEC were severely impacting its operations, sparking speculation about a potential relocation.
In response, WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, categorically denied the claims, emphasizing that the organization has no intention of relocating.
“There hasn’t been any discussion in this direction,” Kapi stated. “The law that established WAEC stipulates that the headquarters will be situated here in Accra. Since then, there has been no amendment to that provision. Therefore, we can confirm that no such discussions have occurred, and there are no plans to move the headquarters.”
This clarification comes amid heightened public concern over the financial challenges facing WAEC and its operational stability in Ghana.
