The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has cautioned the public against fraudulent social media posts falsely claiming that lost or unclaimed baggage is being sold at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
These deceptive posts, primarily circulating on Facebook, advertise unclaimed luggage for sale at an unusually low price of GHS 32. According to GACL, the scam first emerged in October 2024, prompting management to issue a disclaimer. However, fraudsters have resumed their misleading tactics to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
“We have recently become aware of fresh attempts by these faceless individuals, once again using Facebook, to deceive the unsuspecting public into paying a specific amount of money. Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) would like to emphatically reiterate that the post is completely false, orchestrated to misinform and dupe the unsuspecting public, and should thus be disregarded,” GACL stated in a release.
The company reaffirmed that these posts are entirely false and designed to exploit the public for financial gain. It stressed that all official announcements are made exclusively through its verified social media channels and that no third party has been authorised to communicate on its behalf.
GACL urged the public to remain vigilant, ignore unauthorized posts about luggage sales, and report any suspicious activities. The company reassured its commitment to protecting travelers from fraudulent schemes.
