Ghana has secured the second spot in Africa’s safety rankings for 2025, according to a report by Altezza Travel, a Tanzania-based destination management company.
The West African country’s strong performance was attributed to its robust democratic institutions, including an independent judiciary, multiparty democracy, freedom of speech, and a free press.
Ghana’s ranking surpassed that of several countries, including Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, China, and Jamaica, in terms of the Global Peace Index. Additionally, it achieved a zero score in the Terrorism Index.
The country’s crime rate was also found to be lower than that of Canada, Greece, and Australia.
While Ghana lagged behind developed nations in the Global Safety Report and Human Development Index, it outperformed most African countries, including popular tourist destinations Kenya, Ethiopia, and Madagascar.
Mauritius took the top spot as the safest country in Africa, followed by Zambia, Namibia, and Morocco. Tunisia, Egypt, and Tanzania ranked sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Altezza Travel’s analysis was based on various reports and indexes, including the Global Peace Index, Global Terrorism Index, KOF Globalisation Index, Crime Index, Global Safety Report, and Human Development Index.
