Parliament has approved the ministerial nominations of Cassiel Ato Forson, John Jinapor, and Dominic Ayine for key cabinet positions.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson will serve as Minister of Finance, John Jinapor as Minister of Energy and Green Transition, and Dr. Dominic Ayine as Minister of Justice and Attorney-General.

The approvals were based on the unanimous recommendations of the parliamentary committee following a thorough vetting process. The nominees—Dr. Ato Forson, MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and Majority Leader; John Jinapor, MP for Yapei-Kusawgu; and Dr. Dominic Ayine, MP for Bolgatanga East—were assessed for their leadership skills and experience.

On Tuesday, January 21, Parliament debated the motion for their approval, with Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah Amoako presiding over the session. After extensive discussions, both the Majority and Minority caucuses agreed that the nominees had proven their competence and readiness to lead their respective ministries effectively.

The Second Deputy Speaker formally announced the confirmation of their appointments, marking the first wave of ministers approved under President Mahama’s administration. This development represents a crucial step in forming a capable ministerial team to tackle pressing national challenges.

Contributing  on the floor towards their nomination, the Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana lauded all three and wished them well at their various ministries.

“There is no doubt that these men have what it takes to improve their respective sectors and make the country better.”

Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi also praised the three MPs, but did not mince words especially for incoming Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson who promised to  raise the tax revenue-to-GDP ratio from 13.8percent to 18percent, arguing that given his resolve to abolish key tax handles, achieving the 18 percent will be difficult.

He however was upbeat about the three MPs excelling in their respective roles.
