Ghana Revenue Authority marks International Customs Day with focus on efficiency, security and prosperity

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has celebrated International Customs Day with the theme “Customs: Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity.” The event brought together top government officials, customs experts, and industry leaders to highlight the crucial role of customs in facilitating trade, ensuring national security, and promoting economic growth.
In his keynote speech, Alhaji Idrisu Inusah Seidu, Chairman for the event, emphasized the critical importance of efficiency in customs operations. He stated, “Our commitment to efficiency, delivery, and prosperity are essential for facilitating trade and promoting economic growth.” Alhaji Seidu further highlighted the continuous efforts of the Ghana Revenue Authority to modernize customs processes and improve service delivery to businesses and the public.
Security, a core focus of this year’s celebration, was also a central point in the Chairman’s address. “Security is paramount, and we must remain vigilant in our efforts to protect our borders and prevent illicit activities,” Alhaji Seidu asserted. His comments underscored the role of customs in safeguarding the country’s borders and ensuring that all imported and exported goods comply with national and international laws.
The event also featured discussions on the GRA’s achievements in improving customs efficiency, such as the implementation of digital customs services, streamlined procedures at ports, and efforts to reduce clearance times. The GRA has been working diligently to combat smuggling, enhance trade facilitation, and create a fair and transparent environment for businesses operating in Ghana.
International Customs Day, which is observed globally on January 26, is a day to celebrate the pivotal role that customs services play in global trade and national development. This year’s theme served as a reminder of the interconnectedness of efficiency, security, and prosperity in the customs sector.
The GRA reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing its operations, ensuring border security, and fostering a conducive environment for trade and economic prosperity in Ghana.
