The Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation marked a major milestone over the weekend of May 17–18, 2025, as it hosted the third edition of its annual Interprofessional Collaboration for Community Development (ICCD) summit in Amankwakrom, Afram Plains. The two-day event brought together influential voices from the health, education, and agriculture sectors, united by a shared goal: to unlock the full socio-economic potential of the Afram Plains and chart a path toward a self-reliant future.
Held under the theme, collaboration for development, the summit buzzed with energy and purpose. The official outdoor of a Menstrual Hygiene Management(MHM) campaign “She thrives, we rise” to sensitise the community around MHM practices, a traditional food bazaar showcased local cuisine and youth creativity, while community members benefited from free general health screenings and NHIS registrations, thanks to a partnership with the Presbyterian Hospital.
One of the most notable moments was the inauguration of the Amankwakrom Cattle Ranch Taskforce, led by Hon. John Dumelo MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture. He encouraged the members of the task force to operate within the laws and shared strategic plans for the Afram Plains under the Feed Ghana programme. “We are trying to bring processing centres onto the farms, so that once you finish harvesting, we can process what is left to generate income,” he explained, reinforcing his ministry’s commitment to reducing post-harvest losses and supporting farmers.
Seen as a pivotal step toward sustainable livestock management and conflict resolution in the area, Mr Emmanuel Nyadedzo, Leader of the Anidaso Morkporkpor district farmers association, also called on the District Chief Executive to institute bylaws to further govern and control the movement of cattle and protect crop farms to support the work of the task force.
Also in attendance, Hon. Wolarse Kpeli, MP for the Afram Plains North District, commended the Foundation’s leadership in driving self-led development. “Agriculture is our key advantage here in the Afram Plains and it takes a united community to harness its full potential,” he said as he encouraged the community to throw its weight behind the task force to ensure its success.
For Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI, Chief of Amankwakrom and founder of the Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation, the event was a testament to the power of partnership and shared vision. “Through your support, we have successfully inaugurated our first cattle ranch task force and also collectively taken a few steps towards achieving SDG 2, zero hunger,” he said.
He concluded by encouraging continued collaboration through community-led initiatives that align with national development goals.
The 2025 ICCD summit not only celebrated the achievements of the past year but also reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to grassroots-led development. It positioned the Afram Plains not just as a region of potential, but as one of real promise and rising momentum.
