Minority Leader, Hon. Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education by offering lifelines to bright but needy students across the country.

He explained that his motivation stems from his own difficult childhood and school days, where financial struggles nearly curtailed his dreams. Drawing from this experience, he urged young students never to be “depressed in times of difficulties,” but instead to hold firmly to their aspirations, no matter the circumstances.

The Effutu MP made these remarks when undergraduate members of the Volta Students Association (VOSA) of the University of Ghana paid a courtesy call on him. During the visit, he presented a total of GH₵105,000 to cover the tuition fees of 33 students from the Volta Region for the academic calendar.

“It is with great pride that I support one of my own. Education remains the greatest equalizer, and I will always stand by students who show determination and promise,” he stated.

This gesture is part of Afenyo-Markin’s broader educational support initiatives which include:

Scholarship schemes for tertiary students in his constituency and beyond.

Distribution of learning materials to under-resourced schools.

Mentorship programs, where he personally engages students to inspire leadership and academic excellence.

Infrastructure support projects, such as furnishing libraries and ICT centers in selected schools.

Career development opportunities, by linking students to internship and training placements.

On his part, VOSA President, Xovi Gideon Senator, expressed deep appreciation, describing the intervention as “a great honour and a blessing.” He assured the Minority Leader that the funds would be used judiciously to ensure that the beneficiaries complete their studies successfully.

Further, Afenyo-Markin advised the beneficiaries, “Don’t abuse this opportunity, and don’t let yourself down. Your success is not just for you but for the next generation you will inspire.”

The Minority Leader’s intervention reflects his conviction that when students are empowered today, the nation secures a brighter future tomorrow.
