Parliament returns October 14

Parliament is expected to resume sitting for the next session on October 14, 2025, a statement signed by the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has announced.

Ghana’s legislature have been on recess for close to two months – with lawmakers attending to constituency duties and others committee work whiles on break.

According to the statement, it noted that “ the third meeting of the first session of the ninth parliament of the fourth republic shall commence on Tuesday, 14th Day of October at 14hrs at Parliament House, Accra.

Among the high issues the lawmakers will consider is the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement which was originally scheduled for November but has been been brought forward to October to allow for more time for scrutiny and debate by Members of Parliament before the budget comes into force from the beginning of 2026.

Other legislations such as an amendment to the Rent Act, GIPC Act, Act 865 among others.

Other outstanding committee referrals are expected to support their report to the plenary for debate and adoption.

The Parliament of Ghana is the unicameral legislature of Ghana, consisting of 276 members elected for four-year terms. The current legislature is the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic, which was inaugurated on January 7, 2025.

The NDC holds the majority of seats (185) compared to the NPP’s 87, with four seats held by independent MPs.
