First National Bank has announced the launch of its inaugural Journalism Academy. The initiative aims to equip news reporters and editors with essential skills in financial statement analysis, ethical reporting, and interpretation of economic reports.

The Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at First National Bank, Delali Dzidzienyo explained that the Journalism Academy is in response to the critical need for more accurate and insightful reporting on economic issues.

“First National Bank wants to bridge the gap between journalism and finance, empowering professionals to provide comprehensive and nuanced coverage of financial news and developments,” Mr. Dzidzienyo said.

“The role of journalists in disseminating accurate and unbiased financial information cannot be overstated. We have pooled dedicated and renowned resources, both locally and internationally to provide Ghanaian journalists with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate complex financial statements, uphold ethical reporting standards, and contribute to informed public discourse on economic matters.”

The Journalism Academy, which is strictly by invitation, will feature expert-led workshops, interactive sessions, and case studies designed to provide practical insights and hands-on experience. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with industry professionals, ask questions, and exchange ideas to enhance their reporting skills.

The curriculum of the Academy encompasses a wide range of topics, including financial statement analysis, ethical reporting and interpretation of economic reports.

By participating in the Journalism Academy, editors and news reporters will enhance their reporting skills, expand their knowledge base and build relationships with industry experts and peers. Ultimately, this will enable them to produce more informed, insightful, and impactful news reports, contributing to a more informed public discourse on financial matters.

First National Bank’s Journalism Academy is organized in collaboration with the University of Media, Arts and Communication – Ghana Institute of Journalism.
