The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced the postponement of the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The House was originally scheduled to reconvene on Tuesday, October 14, for the start of its next meeting. However, in a notice issued from the Speaker’s Office on Monday, October 6, Mr. Bagbin stated that the decision to defer the resumption was taken due to circumstances beyond his control.

“I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is deferred until further notice due to circumstances beyond my control,” the notice read.

The letter, dated October 6, was issued pursuant to an earlier Notice to Summon Parliament dated September 29, 2025.

While the Speaker did not disclose the specific reasons behind the postponement, he assured Members of Parliament and the general public that a new date will be communicated once the prevailing issues are resolved.

The deferment comes at a time when Parliament was expected to resume deliberations on a number of critical national matters — including committee reports, outstanding bills, and pre-budget engagements ahead of the presentation of the 2026 national budget.

Observers note that such delays, though procedural, underscore the logistical and administrative complexities involved in the management of Ghana’s legislative calendar.
