MobileMoney Limited (MML), a subsidiary of MTN Ghana responsible for mobile money services has enhanced its public education on momo fraud in an extensive engagement with market women, owners of small sized enterprises and individual traders in selected markets across the country.

Staff of the company visited the Agbogbloshie market and several others last Wednesday to intensify fraud education, with volunteers also offering on-the-stop activations and support services to customers.

Senior Manager of Fintech Channels at MobileMoney Limited, Abdul-Majeed Rufai, in an interview with journalists in Agbogbloshie market, said the activations reaffirmed the company’s commitment to prevent momo fraud through various channels and at all levels.

According to him, despite the several promotional campaigns on traditional and digital media platforms, there was the need to directly engage vulnerable persons, especially the market women and individual traders to empower them against momo fraudsters.

The nationwide education campaign dubbed “Shine Your Eye” involved taking momo education to local communities with various teams deployed across markets.

The activations featured musical and dance competition and drama skits to demonstrate how fraudsters operate and how customers can protect themselves.

“One of the most important messages customers need to know is that nobody from MTN will call them without using the number 0244-300000. MTN staff will never ask customers for their PIN or priority information,” Mr. Rufai told the market women.

He added: “There is nobody from MTN that will call you without using the number 0244-300000.When the MTN number calls you also, the 0244300000, nobody will ask your priority or your pin.”

Mr. Rufai also entreated the customers to desist from sharing their PIN, allowing people to do transactions on their behalf, and approving prompts or transactions that they did not initiated.
