Fresh momentum for Nuclear Energy as Minister installs new NPG Board

187views

The Minister of Energy, John Jinapor, has inaugurated a six-member Board for Nuclear Power Ghana, marking another step toward the country’s long-standing ambition to integrate nuclear energy into its power mix.

The Minister noted that since the era of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana has envisioned the development of nuclear power for electricity generation. However, despite multiple efforts over the decades, that vision has yet to be fully realised.

He emphasized that global experience shows a clear pattern: countries seeking sustained economic growth require stable, affordable base-load power—and nuclear energy remains one of the most reliable pathways to achieve this.

During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Jinapor charged the Board to “break new ground, accelerate progress, and deliver on the long-standing objective of adding nuclear power to our national energy mix.”

The newly appointed Board members are: Emmanuel Appiah-Korang (Chairman), Ing. Samuel Boakye Dampare, Ing. Edward Obeng-Kenzo, Bernard Kofi Ellis,Benedict Kofi Wompeh and Nana Akyaa Amoah-Amissah.
