The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has congratulated the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, on her election as Chair of the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

In a congratulatory letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, the Speaker described her elevation as a clear reflection of her outstanding leadership in higher education governance and her strong international academic reputation.

“Your assumption of this high office bears testimony to your stellar leadership in higher education governance and your enviable international credentials as a celebrated academic with more than two decades of experience,” the Speaker stated.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin noted that Prof. Amfo’s election as Chair follows her induction in August 2024 as one of eight members of the ACU Governing Council, further underscoring her global recognition, proven leadership, and extensive experience in academic administration.

He said the Parliament of Ghana takes immense pride in her achievement, describing it as a significant milestone not only for the University of Ghana but also for the country’s higher education sector.

The Speaker expressed strong confidence in Prof. Amfo’s capacity to lead the Council effectively and advance the Association’s mission of positioning higher education as a catalyst for sustainable development and societal transformation across Commonwealth countries.

He further pledged Parliament’s solidarity and support to ensure the success of her tenure as Chair of the Council.

Prof. Amfo’s election was officially announced by the London-based Head Office of the Association of Commonwealth Universities on January 8, 2026.
